To use the character map to copy and paste any symbol, follow the steps below. It allows users to type and manipulate text in a graphic environment that resembles a page of paper. In the parts that follow, I’ll show you how to type or insert this symbol (Pilcrow – ) wherever on your Windows or Mac computer (such as Word or Excel, or PowerPoint). To type the Paragraph Symbol anywhere on your PC or Laptop keyboard (like in Microsoft Word or Excel), press Option + 7 shortcut for Mac.
Click the Copy button after selecting the symbol you want to copy. It used to be Show/Hide ¶ but may be ‘Formatting’ or ‘Invisibles’. Don't have Word on this Mac but try highlighting the paragraph and then Command-Option-M to bring up its formatting box.
You can use formatting to control how text flows on the page. In the word options dialogue box, select “Display”. Click the File menu and navigate to its options. The numbers will be converted to the paragraph symbol where the insertion pointer is placed.
